In-Class Workshops

Graduate Writing Center consultants typically work with up to four professors per semester to  collaboratively design and present course-specific writing workshops. In recent years, consultants have collaborated with faculty in colleges including the Eberly College of Science, the College of the Liberal Arts, the College of Nursing, the College of Medicine, the College of Education, the College of Health and Human Development, and the School of International Affairs, among others.

Are you preparing to teach a graduate course or program and hoping to collaborate on a lesson with a GWC consultant? If so, please read the following information, and complete the form below.

Please note that nearly all GWC operations, including workshops and tutoring, are performed by two 20hour/week graduate assistants. They must plan their hours for a given semester before classes begin in order to make sessions available in the scheduling system. Due to this scheduling constraint, requests for specialized workshops in a given semester must be received before classes start—for example, for Spring 2019 workshops, before January 7th; for Summer 2019, before May 6th; and for Fall 2019, before August 26th. If you are hoping to schedule a workshop in the current semester, please consider requesting one from Penn State Learning’s writing tutors or from EPPIC’s language specialists.

If you would like to request a workshop next semester, please complete this form. After the consultants review your request, they will ask you to send assignment descriptions and sample papers from your course or program, and to attend a planning meeting with them.
